What is taboo now? - The word, the actual line

[/i][/i]What does “Taboo” mean?

Firstly, this is not a story. It is not designed or intended to titillate but is intended to be a discussion topic, an insight into my personal views and examination of where we are as a shared society. There may be some examples that seem to excite but that isn’t the intent of this IDEA.

Taboo is traditionally meant to describe actions or elements that society, as a whole, views as distasteful, forbidden, dangerous and unforgivable. Society, however, changes and so does the line that defines the perimeter of “taboo”. That brings me to the point and reason for my question: What does “taboo” mean?

I have read a number of profiles on other sex sites, on this site and in some lifestyle magazines where the word taboo is used. However, when exploring the profiles or questioning the individuals (when possible) and examining the magazine context, I have come to the conclusion that people have started to use the word “taboo” not for its true meaning but simply as a provocative word. In most cases, I have found that the word “taboo” has been and is being used to replace the words “kink” and “fetish”.

I parse words. I examine words and look for the real meaning. It gets somewhat frustrating when I discover that people have gotten lazy with their speech for the sake of self-promotion.

Here is an example: I am looking over profiles on some of the other sex sites, some gay and others bi. I have seen a number of profiles that read: “ I am into … and taboo scenes.” or the entire point of the profile is to convey some mystery behind what the person is into. When you engage these people you tend to find that their idea of taboo is simple kink. Some people think that water sports or double penetration are taboo. I have read other profiles and engaged BI couples where the idea of taboo is the male of the set services and is penetrated by other males.

I think my point here is that people have gotten confused about what is taboo and what is kink. A kinky fetish may seem taboo or may have been at some earlier time a taboo but identifying the difference may be helpful.

Let us all admit that: in the last 30 years a number of sexual and social activities have been brought fully into the main stream of sex in our society. You can mark the transition through porn. In the 70s you might find one or two scenes in all of porndom that showed pissing, even rarer than that was finding a water sports scene (more than one person involved in the process). Now you can barely find a porn video without IT making its way into the story somewhere. The same can be said for double penetration, breeding, creampies, fisting, squirting and much more. It was almost impossible to find in the 70s, rare in the 80s, up and coming in the 90s and now you have to try to avoid it. That is all porn: gay, straight, Bi, tranny and Gonzo.

ABOUT ME:
I was born in the late 70s. I became sexually aware at about 7 or 8 years old. Not sexually active but sexually aware. I knew what attraction was and what I was attracted to. Sex and sexuality seemed to be something I was intuitively able to understand. That started me on a personal, intellectual journey of sex as a subject. Before anyone gets excited. I did not have my first sexual experience until I was 15 and then I did not lose my virginity until I was 17. However, from age 7 to 17, I did not lack exposure and enlightenment.

I started by watching French Indie films. I then read books like Justine _Marquis de Sade.
I progressed to the REAL Kamasutra, translated by Burton. Then I had a number of experiences where people were engaged in sex around me. To be clear, I grew up in North Carolina. I grew up in both a small but very progressive town. My parents were not neglectful but they did not smother me either. I always stayed out of trouble but was mature for my age. There were older people that could recognize this and my natural “libido”- sexual energy. I met a few adults that were swingers/nudists and had private gatherings that I was welcome to attend without participating. Or perhaps I would wander by when something was happening and I was allowed to stay and witness. Other times, I had mentors talk to me and explain things that were. Some of the people I would talk to were amazed at my own innate understanding of the “codes of conduct” in the fetishist lifestyle. Thanks to Karouac and authors from the 60s and 70s who wrote on the sexual revolution and escapades.

THE PRECEDING WAS A BRIEF INSIGHT BEFORE I GO ON TO MY NEXT COMMENTS/POINTS.

I have discovered that in recent years people seem to have lost the ability to explore the truth in their own selves. They do not know how to translate that into real words and therefore do not know how to express their desires.

I have also discovered that the rules of conduct, which should be instinctual if not obvious, have been totally thrown aside. People who follow the rules of conduct I call lifestyle fetishists. We live the life as if it were defined in society. The people who fantasize about “kink” are just daydreamers.

If you find yourself at a nudist resort, which are often populated by swinger groups, you should not insert yourself. You would not do that at a lunch table in High School or at the office water cooler. You would observe and wait to be invited. If you were not noticed then perhaps you would ask to join. Why would you be less respectful of a sexual encounter? Many people, due in part to the Internet, have lost the sense of etiquette. If two or more people know they are being watch and still seem oblivious, could they not simply be exhibitionist? When they invite you: Join, otherwise the invitation is just to watch.

That is a passive example but here is where it connects the prior point.
How do you find out what a person is into, what taboo they are into and express your own?
What is “taboo”? When I see “taboo” I think of things that might get you arrested if spoken aloud or possible shunned. However, it is possible that those same things are shared interests by others. I think that there are VERY FEW true taboos left. So, define your kink. If you are going to use the word taboo then mean TABOO.

MORE ABOUT ME:
Sexually, I am mild by my thinking. I have done far less than others but I am open-minded. Too, open-minded I think. I have a natural curiosity to all things that are suggested. I may not go along with it but I will research. I do not judge anyone. I try to get inside their heads. Some things, I would rather not have in my mind but other things I have a healthy curiosity about.

CONTINUING with the IDEA.

The only things that I can say are still taboos in the truest sense are: Pedophilia, n*********a and Snuff. Everything else has become mainstream.

i****t is now a porn theme unto itself. They are using actual Twins and triplets in porn now having sex with each other and siblings and parents with whom the family resemblance cannot be denied. Mainly, that is porn from Europe but still. Sex with a****ls or extreme sexual acts (auto-dot, dot, dot), Midgets, mutants, and body modification, Tranny-sex. I cannot name all the things that are out there now that was taboo and now not.

Now to touch on the most sensitive of taboos: Pedophilia. That takes some parsing because it is based on age and every state has their own age of consent and in other countries it is still yet different from the US. Here legal age is 18. 17 and a half or any amount less is a minor and therefore [Taboo.] In Europe the age of consent in some countries is 12 for males and 16 in most others. I was probably more aggressively looking for sex myself by age 13.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN ATTRACTED TO MUCH OLDER MEN. AT 13 I WANTED A SALT AND PEPPER MAN OF 50 OR SO AS A FANTASY. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED MAN/BOY STORIES FANTASIZING THAT I WAS A 10 OR 11 YEAR OLD BEING “TAUGHT” BY AN OLDER MENTOR. I as often happens was a "c***d" that wished a grown man would "take" me.

You do write provocative and powerful stuff. Thank you. For me "taboo" includes anything where one party is not knowing/comfortable/happy/consenting to be doing it. That includes for me spying where the other party may not even be aware. The age thing is so sensitive and I leave that for others. My chosen partners and fantasies have never crossed that line (wherever you put that taboo/legal line). Thank you again for making us think on this site.

That is a good question indeed. I don't know how to answer it, but I can say a bit about my experience. I am often drawn to ideas which are supposed to be shunned just because I don't like being told what to do or what to think. That is what drew me to stories about incest. As I grew used to the idea, I realized there was nothing really intrinsically immoral about it except that such activity carries a certain risk of physical and psychological abuse. Now the kind of thrill I get out of reading such stories is different. It is not so much about the thrill of being shocked as about exploring a somewhat different way of being. Once upon a time, sex with girls was a bit of a taboo for me and I used to get turned on by the very mention of lesbianism because it involved breaking a rule. Now I don't care about that "rule" and the attraction I feel towards a girl is a bit more about the girl herself rather than the taboo. The taboo is gone and took it's peculiar thrill with it, but I don't miss it.

à sexlocke : thanks - I'm glad we agree.
most of my fantasy pre-pubescent girls want their Dad to take their virginity rather than the spotty boy at school

à dasx2 : That is actually within the realm of taboo that I covered, although edited by the site. Pedophilia - young/old. I can relate to that as 'taboo'. The profiles that are about groups, gang bangs or sex in public places with adults or contemporaries. That is not my idea of taboo. I love the stories I have come across that are young&old(er)--- family themed --- if I see the word taboo, that is what I am expecting. However, as I said in my original document, people seem to use the word but describe "kinky" or Fetish sex, not taboo. - Thanks for commenting!

I sometimes label my stories as 'taboo' - I just like to explore the fantasy of young girls growing into sexually mature teens thanks to their family

Thats a lot to digest. Will read it later in detail. Definitions do change due to "improper" & new use. Awesome comes to mind. The word taboo and changes perhaps could be blamed on the Brady Bunch and the infamous taboo episode where the word became "popular". Then add to this the dating of Greg and his TV step mom would have some influence....no time for deeper thoughts right now.
